Groove Manipulation is the transposition or reorganization of rhythms in a groove to different sounds around the drum kit. In total, there are 26 different sound combinations to experiment with, using the hi-hat/snare/kick sounds as the basis.

I have individual posts highlighted on this site with examples of groove manipulations in a variety of styles including: bossa nova, afrobeat, funk, rock, R&B, and hip hop.

The book is over 100 pages long and goes in depth in this topic. This approach will give you another tool to be creative with when you’re making music.
